Network Speed Units

There is a lot of misunderstanding and confusion among people regarding different speed units  like kbps , Kbps .kb/s etc etc  so in this post will try to cover all of this in a simple and understandable manner
To begin with  :

First of all, note the capitalization of letters in the words.
Kbps - Kilo Bits per second
Mbps - Mega Bits per second

While KB/s or MB/s is what you see in browsers or download managers.
This capital B stands for Bytes.
Now, 8 bits = 1 byte. That means your 4 Mbps connection (4 Mega Bits per second) gives you 4/8 = 512 KB/s (512 Kilo BYTES per second

Smart India Hackathon 2017

Selected  :)

Back in January I submitted my solution for the Smart India Hackathon 2017 for the problem set #pos5 by Ministry of postal and telecommunication  which was  :

Monitoring of bandwidth Performance

  • With each Desktop on the network at the POS (Point of Sale) and at the backroom mail processing and Delivery post offices, the bandwidth promised by service providers may not be available.
  • An easy to measure the speed of the connectivity will be of great assistance to employee to judge why the system is not responding properly to the command

Yesterday we got the confirmation for our selection (Wooohooo !!) and now me and my team
( Shubham , Pragya, Arpita, Sheryl , Smriti ) have to travel to the Venue  on 31 March  for the Hackathon.

Time to Code on 😎
